I don't get it. I've never been stopped at a checkpoint, and don't know how they work. Are you required to stop? Do you have to take some sort of sobriety test? Has this been tested in court?
I'm really confused by the fact that they put out a statement letting people know where they will be. So they're warning people in advance that if they drink and drive, they should take another route home? I really can't understand what the point is. Any ideas?

Maybe if you're sober, you'll remember to avoid the area, and if you're driving drunk, you'll be too befuddled to steer clear.
I got stopped at one. Most cars get waived through. All I had to do was roll down my window and say that I hadn't been drinking.
I think cops need a reasonable suspicion that a driver is sloshed before they pull you out of your car and ask you to do a field sobriety test.
