A 31-year-old Woodside woman was found dead Tuesday morning in the Grand Canyon, park officials said.
The National Park Service found the body of Lillian Meyn about 300 feet below the canyon rim near Trailview Overlook along Hermit Road in the national park located in Arizona, according to a park service press release.
A family member reported Meyn missing on Monday. Later that day, park rangers found the car that she had rented in Flagstaff, Arizona, on the South Rim of Grand Canyon near the Bright Angel Lodge, said Joelle Baird, a spokesperson for the Grand Canyon National Park.
Once the rangers found the car, they searched the immediate area and it "didn't take long to locate the body," Baird said.
The National Park Service and the Coconino Medical Examiner are conducting an investigation into the circumstances and cause of death. Autopsy and toxicology reports can take up to a month, Baird said.
