The Portola Valley School District and Woodside Fire Protection District will host an educational event on Tuesday, Dec. 10, to help community members prepare for wildfire threats.
The event begins at 6 p.m. at Corte Madera School in Portola Valley.
Discussion topics will include:
• The school district's wildfire evacuation plan
• Facilities and wildfire risk reduction
• Emergency communications
• Wildfire evacuation: warnings and evacuation orders, shelter in place, and transportation
• The protocol for reuniting students and their family
• Considerations for closing schools due to a PG&E planned power shutoff
• Air quality recommendations
Portola Valley schools closed on Oct. 10 when PG&E cut off power due to a high fire risk in the area.
During the shutoff, officials held classes by lantern, according to an Oct. 28 district email to parents. Teachers engaged students in non-tech lessons: "reading, writing, playing."
The event will be in the multi-use room at the school, 4575 Alpine Road in Portola Valley.
