Atherton police arrested a 30-year-old Menlo Park man for throwing his skateboard at a moving car in an unprovoked attack on Friday, Sept. 27, according to a police press release.
A motorist was driving down Elena Avenue approaching Park Lane around 8:30 a.m. when a man threw a skateboard at the driver's side of the car, breaking a mirror and leaving "a large dent on the driver's side door," according to police.
The man fled through the Menlo Circus Club property, and the driver provided a description of him to police, who searched the area for him. Police found and arrested him at the Menlo Park Caltrain station.
The driver did not know the man with the skateboard, according to police.
Editor's note: It is The Almanac's policy to withhold the names of those arrested for most crimes until the District Attorney's Office has determined that there is sufficient evidence to file charges in the case.

The article says the attack was unprovoked. Is it possible the driver drove too close to the skateboarder, thereby endangering him? I bike a lot and frequently encounter drivers who seem to take pleasure in driving right next to bikes.

We can imagine a lot of things! We are free to make up scenarios in our heads all day long, constructing them any way we want. It's magical!

Just speculating BUT: skateboarders do not usually throw away their ride. He must have been very DISTURBED. So how do 30-year olds get disturbed? Varies. Almost getting run over? Drugs? Mental illness? All of the above?

Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act - Web Link
Whomever sold this proposition to the CA public was pure genius. Who wouldn't vote for it.
Yet here we are five years later talking about a person who likely benefited from this criminal statute reclassification and threw a skateboard probably high on drugs in in a safe neighborhood adjacent to a school. Shocker.
