Atherton will not be the destination of President Donald Trump as he makes his political fundraising visit to the Bay Area this week, Atherton Police Chief Steve McCulley said in a Sept. 13 email.
This follows a report from Politco on Sept. 3 that Atherton may be the location of a fundraising luncheon for Trump on Tuesday, Sept. 17.
Town officials told The Almanac on Sept. 3 that they had heard the same "rumor" and were attempting to confirm the visit with the Secret Service.
"We have been advised he is not coming to Atherton," McCulley said. "I have no other information on his plans to visit the area."
McCulley told The Almanac that the town was informed of the no-show by the Secret Service.
The Almanac contacted town officials on Aug. 30 to ascertain whether any special events permit had been taken out for a presidential visit after Trump posted on his website that he would be in the Bay Area for a fundraiser in September. (The town revised its special events permit process in 2015 so that hosts are billed by the town for the costs of special services that police or other town departments provide.) City Manager George Rodericks responded that no permits for a fundraiser had been taken out, but said a permit for such an event is sometimes applied for only days before.
The permit application stipulates that applications, which come with a $75 fee and ask for details, such as if the event hosts will need traffic control help, street barricades or other town services, should be taken out 60 days before an event.
Rodericks said there are no penalties for turning in a permit fewer than 60 days in advance, and it's rare that the town receives notice that far ahead of time. The notice is largely treated as advisory, as the permit may trigger special conditions (fire and building inspections for tents, neighborhood noticing, etc.) that cannot be met within the time frame, he said.

Since he’s not going to Atherton, I’m 90% sure it will be PV or Woodside based on what I’ve heard. Can’t wait!

Marine One flew over my house in Portola Valley on Friday, so it’s definitely nearby. Press should check with the town of PV. He’s going to have to land somewhere!

I have contacted the secret service to try to gain information on how PV traffic will be affected. Need to know as I have to be at Stanford by 1 on Tuesday. Will post back here if I get a reply

If trump is in fact coming here to PV I’m concerned about potential protesters. I doubt the sheriffs will have adequate resources to deal with them. And we all know how people drive in PV, if the protesters are not careful they could be hit by speeding cars. I worry that people from out of town will not be respectful of residents and our daily lives just trying to get through a normal Tuesday with minimal delays (As if the presidents visit wasn’t enough already)

What's disrespectful? Something as American as peaceful protest, or speeding ("yes, I do own the whole damn road!") PV drivers?
Maybe the scofflaw PV drivers should respect THE LAW.
Respect America! Respect the law!

Sharpie, I am simply expressing a valid safety concern. Plus, it’s a huge inconvenience to residents just trying to go about our daily lives (On Tuesday I happen to have a lunch meeting in Palo Alto). I ask that anyone who must express their voice do it in a manner that takes into account the people who will be affected, and maybe do so at a place that is better suited for it (Moffet field comes to mind).

So no concerns about speeding PV drivers anymore? Sorry, I'm a law and order guy. You either expressed concern about safety, or obliquely threatened American protesters by suggesting someone pull a James Fields with a speeding car.
> And we all know how people drive in PV, if the protesters are not careful they could be hit by speeding cars.
I suggest you plan ahead and spend the night in PA, or talk to your neighbors about hosting an event that possibly inconveniences you.
AND STOP SPEEDING. Or stop making not-very-subtle threats. Or both.

Sharpie if you drive in PV you’ll know how fast cars go. On average 10-15mph faster than posted speed limits. And it’s not just a small group it’s probably over half of cars on the road. But clearly you don’t live here or visit very often

To the members of our greater community - please ignore the threats, falsehoods and disruptive ramblings of the above poster:
- "it’s probably over half of cars on the road"
- "it’s a huge inconvenience"
- "we all know how people drive in PV, if the protesters are not careful they could be hit by speeding cars"
It's not inconvenient. We all know multiple ways in and out of town (even the ones that avoid the ALPR's, which are often non-functioning anyway.)
We are a welcoming community that appreciates diversity of opinion. We support the United States Constitutions and the Freedom of Speech.

"Winning"
Since he won - nothing but losses. All the special elections in 2017/18 - lost a senate seat in red Alabama and half a dozen house seats. Nov 2018 lost the house majority.
Didn't pass any laws when he had the house and senate, except tax cuts for billionaires and corporations.
Winning.
