When Sequoia Union High School District students returned to school last month, they were met with new teachers, classes and facilities, including the just-opened TIDE Academy in Menlo Park.
Below are updates on the district's three high schools – TIDE, Woodside and Menlo-Atherton – in The Almanac's coverage area.
Menlo-Atherton High School

TIDE Academy
TIDE's name is an acronym for technology, innovation, design and engineering; the school focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) subjects to prepare students for careers in those areas. The name also derives from the school's proximity to the San Francisco Bay.
Allison Silvestri was appointed principal of the new school in June.
Construction at the school is expected to be completed at the end of September or in early October, according to Arntz Builders, the district's contractor for the project.
Enrollment: TIDE Academy has a freshman class of about 106 students. The school will eventually grow to about 450 students once grades nine through 12 are in place.
Classes offered: STEAM-oriented courses include engineering and design principles, computer science and product design.
Woodside High School
Enrollment: The school has enrolled 1,936 students this year, 28 more than last year.
New staff: New members of the 203-person staff, led by Principal Diane Burbank, include Brian Ngo, English teacher; Carl Haislett and Ramon Pulido, mathematics teachers; Paul Durdle, science teacher; Andrew Ho and Joe Medina, social science teachers; Lillie Allgaier, Luis Chavez, Jonathan Gonzalez, Yeni Jimenez, Pravin Kaipa, Amanda Odette and Anneke Vera, special education teachers; and Jonda Farris and Ilse Tapia, world languages teachers.

This article incorrectly states that there are 3 schools in the Sequoia Union High School District. Actually, the district includes Menlo-Atherton, Woodside, Sequoia, Carlmont, TIDE, Redwood High School and East Palo Alto Academy. Web Link
