Gulliver La Valle resigned from the Portola Valley School District board on Wednesday, Aug. 28. He is moving out of the district and beginning a new job in Los Gatos this fall, according to an Aug. 29 press release.

La Valle said earlier this year he would not seek re-election when his term expires at the end of the year.

Since La Valle is leaving his post within four months of the end of his term, the board will not fill the vacancy in conformance with California law.

The county canceled the district’s school board election for this fall because the number of qualified candidates in the race was equal to the number of open seats, according to county officials. The two qualified candidates for the two open seats – incumbent Brooke Day and Anne Fazioli-Khiari – will be appointed in lieu of an election pursuant to the California Elections Code, said Jim Irizarry, San Mateo County's assistant chief elections officer and assessor-county clerk recorder.

La Valle joined the board in November 2015 and most recently worked as a community engagement director at Woodside Priory School in Portola Valley.

“We thank Gulliver for all of his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Superintendent Roberta Zarea and board President Jeff Klugman in a prepared statement.
