The deadline to pull papers to run for a seat on the Portola Valley School District board has been extended to Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 5 p.m. after one of the incumbents decided not to run for re-election. Election Day is Nov. 5.
There are currently two candidates for two open seats: incumbent Brooke Day and Anne Fazioli-Khiari, community volunteer and chairman of the "Yes on Z" campaign. Fazioli-Khiari was one of six candidates who applied for Michael Maffia's seat when he stepped down from the board in March. The board chose district parent Kimberley Morris Rosen to fill the seat.
Incumbent Gulliver La Valle did not pull papers to run for re-election. He told The Almanac in June he felt "fulfilled" in his work on the board and was ready to "let someone else take the torch."
If no other candidates register, the election will be automatically canceled.
This is the only race in The Almanac's coverage area this fall.
Candidates file papers at the Registration & Elections Division at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo. Go here for more information.
