Atherton Police Department lobby closed until Tuesday

The Atherton Police Department lobby will be closed beginning Thursday (June 13) and reopen the following Tuesday, according to a town press release.

During the soft demolition work on the town's administration building to make way for a new civic center, the abatement monitor determined that the tiles and roof of the entry lobby to the police department contain asbestos, according to the press release. To complete demolition of the area, the asbestos must be contained and removed. During the work, the area will need to be cordoned off from public access.

The Asbestos Management Group will set up containment, perform more in-depth testing, and remove the asbestos. The lobby will be demolished at a later date, according to the town.

The entry doorbell will be relocated so people can speak with a dispatcher via an access window along the exterior covered porch. A sign will be posted with a contact number if needed, according to the press release.
