Educational equity for students throughout the Menlo Park City School District will be the topic of a special meeting of the district's school board on Wednesday (June 12).
Although no action will be taken during the meeting, school board members will discuss their individual and collective commitment to equity in the district, according to a district staff report. However, members may choose to direct Superintendent Erik Burmeister to pursue further efforts to improve equity in the district.
Members will consider the following questions during the meeting, according to the staff report:
• Is equity and the district's commitment to the success of all students sufficiently and effectively communicated and prioritized in the district's mission/vision, core values and guiding principles?
• Would any further edits to the district's operating agreements meaningfully impact the success of all students; if so, what might those be?
Burmeister recommended that the board hold a study session about what role student equity plays in the district's core values.
The public is invited to comment at the meeting or by emailing board@mpcsd.org.
The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. in the TERC Building at Encinal School, 181 Encinal Ave. in Atherton.
