The Woodside Elementary School District celebrated eighth-grader Georgia Hutchinson and her award-winning scientific achievement at a Dec. 10 assembly.
In October, Georgia took home top honors and a $25,000 prize at Broadcom MASTERS (Math, Applied Science, Technology and Engineering for Rising Stars) national science and engineering competition in Washington, D.C. She won the Samueli Foundation Prize for building a system that allows solar panels to follow the sun for maximum energy production.
Georgia is pursuing a patent on the system, according to the Society for Science & the Public.
The Society for Science & the Public and Broadcom Masters also awarded Woodside Elementary School $1,000 for its STEM program.
