A middle-aged male was struck and killed by a train at the California Avenue Caltrain station in Palo Alto Saturday morning.
Trains have been experiencing delays of up to an hour, according to a Caltrain spokeswoman.
At about 10:55 a.m., northbound train No. 801, a Baby Bullet express train, hit the unidentified person at the station, spokeswoman Tasha Bartholomew said.
It was the 14th fatality on Caltrain property this year.
About 320 passengers were aboard the train, which was not scheduled to stop at that station. At 12:19 p.m., those passengers were transferred to northbound train No. 429, she said.
Train service was temporarily suspended in both directions during the initial response by emergency personnel, she said. At 11:50 a.m., trains began single-tracking at reduced speeds through the area.
San Mateo County Transit Police are leading the investigation, Bartholomew said. Following a complete investigation, the Santa Clara County Coroner will determine the official cause of death.
