October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Uploaded: Oct 8, 2014

Have you seen all the NFL players and staff wearing hot pink? The campaign is called 'The Crucial Catch.' The pink garb will be auctioned to raise funds.

The NFL, along with the The American Cancer Society, and many other organizations are honoring October Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I recently joined NAPW (National Association of Professional Women), and our Palo Alto chapter met last night. One of our topics was how we want to participate in Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

I said I'd write about it: women, do your breast checks monthly and get your mammograms regularly. Let your beloved check, too. Do it while you're fooling around, or in the shower together. If either of you notice anything different, get it checked out right away.

Prevention and early detection are the keys.

The American Cancer Society has a tremendous amount of information, and I'll highlight a couple here.

The American Cancer Society always needs donations of money, cars, and so on as they have to select what to research since they never have enough funds to research everything on their agenda. You may donate to them on their website in the name of someone you love who has or had breast cancer.

One of our local organizations that supports women with breast cancer or ovarian cancer is Bay Area Cancer Connections.

Feel free to share stories of hope and loss.
